Clacton Signs .co.uk is a website dedicated to the history of one the longest serving Sign Making families in the UK, 'The Wood Family'. As a family, their Sign Making dates back to 1948. The Wood's are now in their fourth generation as Signmakers.

Billy Wood, a travelling showman and bare nuckle boxing champion just couldn't find anyone to signwrite the panels of his travelling boxing booth so in 1948 he took matters into his own hands and taught himself the art of traditional signwriting.

His skills were passed down to his son David Wood who then went on to master the art of signwriting and his passion took him all over the country using his talents for companies such as Walls Ice Cream & Esso. At that time there was very little competition around and David had about as much work as he could handle.

Susan Wood (David's Wife) then joined the business and 'David Wood Signmakers' steadily grew. As a result of their commitment to excellent customer service they soon became the areas leading signmaking company...
